A properly maintained Kymera Board will not require servicing from a third party. To ensure the boards longevity, it’s critical our maintenance procedures are followed.   

It’s far easier to prevent an issue from arising, than to fix one once it’s happened.

As with most personal watercrafts, salt ingress and debris are the two main culprits for issues arising. Thankfully, both issues are easily preventable by following our prevention and maintenance guidelines.

Prevention
Do not ride your Kymera in shallow water, water with large amounts of debris (for example, after heavy rain) or in water with high levels of particulate (for example sand, dirt, seaweed). If you’re launching in shallow waters, paddle the board away from poetical debris before engaging the throttle.

After each use, remove the battery and drain the board of water completely. Avoid submerging electronics by tipping the board nose up allowing water to drain out the rear.

At the end of your day out, hose your Kymera with clean fresh water inside and out. Avoid submerging electronics by tipping the board nose up allowing water to drain out the rear. Do not use a jet wash, a standard flowing hope pipe is sufficient.

At the end of your day out, clean the cooling lines with clean fresh water using a hose and the supplied cooling line adapter on LOW pressure.

With the battery unplugged and removed, ensure that the jet pump and impeller are clean and clear of obstructions. Carefully remove foreign material, if any. Spray your hose into the impeller, using your thumb over the hose for added pressure if required.

Proper lubrication is critical to performance and should be repeated when in regular use and before storage. When operating in saltwater, weekly or more is advised to clear any trapped moisture. There are two grease fittings:  inside the rear hatch and inside the pump.

Greasing the Drive Shaft
Grease the drive shaft regularly, especially when your Kymera is used in salt water. Your coupler and drive shaft (under the rear hatch) should turn easily by hand. If there is any resistance, you have not applied sufficient grease.  If it won’t move at all, it’s likely you have seized bearings. This will only occur through complete submersion and or repeated insufficient greasing.

If you’re going to do a thorough clean of the board, complete that before greasing the board, as cleaning products may take grease with it.

- Tools required
To complete this work, you will need a grease gun with flexible hose, long shaft quick release coupler and marine grease. This is all available in the Kymera Maintenance Kit.

Step 1: greasing the drive shaft via the rear of the pump
1. Put the board on a table so you can easily get at the jet nozzle.
2. The first time, attach the flexible hose and long shaft quick release coupler to the grease gun, and insert the grease cartridge.
3. Remove any air from the grease barrel by gently squeezing the trigger until a small amount of grease is seen at the tip of the coupler.
4. Push the coupler in through the middle of the jet nozzle up against the grease nipple in the pump.
5. Pull the trigger on the quick release coupler so that it grabs the grease nipple.
6. Apply one squirt of grease only.
7. Pull the trigger on the quick release coupler to allow removal from the grease nipple.

Do not forcefully remove the coupler, as damage may result.

Step 2: greasing the drive shaft via the rear hatch
1. With the board still on the table, ensure you can easily reach inside the rear hatch.
2. Open the rear hatch.
3. Feed the connector through the rear hatch towards the tail of the board, above the chassis (you should see the grease nipple there).
4. Pull the trigger on the quick release coupler so that it grabs the grease nipple.
5. Apply one squirt of grease only.
6. Pull the trigger on the quick release coupler to allow removal from the grease nipple.
7. Close the rear hatch – you’re done!

Cleaning out the Board
Do not EVER use a high-pressure hose to clean the inside of the board. Water ingress into the electronics housing will void your warranty and cause permanent damage.

From time to time, the board may require cleaning out. It may take on sand or silt or other small debris. The best way to clean it out is to remove the drain plug using a shifter or ring spanner. This will leave a hole around 2cm in diameter at the tail of the board. You can then stand the board on its tail and thoroughly hose out the board. Debris should be able to escape through this hole. You may need to tilt the board over, as debris may settle on the other side of the board rather than escape through the hole. Remember to re-install the drain plug after you’re finished, or the next ride will be a short one!

When re-installing the drain plug, do so carefully and don’t over tighten it, or you may strip the thread.

If you have used the board in salt water and are concerned that there may be some salt build up inside the board, you may wish to purchase a product like “salt-away” to dissolve the salt.
